Verse 1 - Proverbs 20:15

Posted by Lisa Laree to Beer Lahai Roi

Every other year, Beth Moore and Living Proof sponsor a memory verse challenge...memorize 24 verses in 12 months. (24 out of 26 possible...two weeks are grace weeks)

Any 24 verses, chosen on the 1st and 15th of each month.

I did it in 2013 and still carry that little 3x5 card spiral with me and reread it when I'm caught somewhere.  It was a powerful journey through scripture.

So, this being the 'other year'  a new round of the Siesta Scripture Memory Team is kicking off today.

And, while I still have to procure my spiral (the last three stores I visited didn't have them!), I'm going on record with my verse, to remind me to use speech wisely in 2015...

Gold there is, and rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel - Prov. 20:15, NIV 84

Here we go!

  1. I actually considered doing this challenge, but I've tried to memorize in the past and failed miserable. Mind you, I've been in church since 6 weeks old and in the Word my whole life. If I could set it to music, like School House Rock, I'd be a champ.

    1. I am not nearly as good at memorizing scripture as I am at memorizing other stuff (I can recite the entire text of 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas'...). My problem is that I have been using too many translations. Learned everything in KJV, of course, when I was a kid, but then NIV became popular and most of the Sunday School material was based on that text, and that's what BSF used. So I learned all my verses as an adult...and relearned childhood verses...in NIV. Then the church I now attend began using NKJV for some adult classes...and I relearned the verses in NKJV. And NIV has been updated....

Anyway, I have a mishmash of translations in my head now and nothing comes out as it should. And I'm TERRIBLE at remembering the scripture reference.

Part of the reason I still carry the spiral from 2 years ago around with me...I have to keep reviewing them or they go away.

But a couple have stuck and stuck well. I'm kinda banking on that whole 'God's word will not return void' promise...that if I'm diligent about making the effort and getting it in there, even if it's not on instant recall, it's still bearing fruit.

If nothing else, picking the verses and working on them for two weeks gives me a good ponder. ;-)

      So glad you stopped by!!
